What we do:
NEW: Having been trained in the method known as 'Maastricht Interview' - developed by the Hearing Voices Network together with international psychiatrists - , Barbara Schaefer assists clients to uncover possible past trauma behind upsetting mental health symptoms - then suggests pragmatic effective support (of course not replacing medical treatment should that be required). Resources that can support coming off psychiatric drugs are available to access where clients wish to do so.
and, as before:
Assistance can be provided in various ways, for example:
- As independent Advocate in Mental Health and with social care issues,
- as McKenzie Friend in legal cases when the client is unrepresented
- as expert witness or assessor/case worker for solicitors dealing with complex mental health or social care issues
- Trustee for organisations in line with the Company's mission
In the mature stage of a life very rich in development potential and overcoming adversity, the Consultant enjoys sharing her experience and she does so - as she would like to be treated herself: In a person-centred way, leaving the client free to accept directions (or not). Experience in Court proceedings has been gained in years of self-representation in a civil matter of social justice opposite a big national company.
Experience working with Mental Health clients has led her to take very rich and rewarding Professional Development with the Hearing Voices Network - learning from experts-by-experience.
